What is RSS.......a review

I think I might have mentioned this site once before but I just looked at it again and learned something new.

RSS is something we hear a lot about, right?  But I think there's a lot of people like me who have(had) only a partial understanding of it.  The fact is that using RSS feeds is a very valuable thing to know how to do especially if you like to get information from the internet.  And it's also very valuable if you're someone who is trying to build any kind of following (for your content) on the internet.

This video does a very quick, simple and complete job of explaining what RSS is and how it works.  Just what you need to know and nothing more.  The little new thing that I learned concerned the meaning of something in particular that I'd often encountered when I clicked on the RSS buttons on certain websites.

If you've ever clicked on an RSS button one of two things happened.

In the first instance, you were ushered along a very clear path of clicking on various buttons, in plain English, that resulted in you getting RSS feed information on a regular basis.  In my case I get my RSS feeds using the Yahoo RSS platform.

But the other thing that sometimes happens is what I didn't have a good understanding of.  At least not consciously.

What I'm referring to is that sometime when I've clicked on RSS buttons, my browser opens up to a whole, new page of what, to me, is basically code.  It didn't make any sense at all.  I look at it and think, "OK.  So what?".

This video answers that questionl.  You can look and learn yourself.  The general subject of 'how to subscribe to RSS feeds' starts at the 2:12 point on the video.  The specific point that I'm talking about starts at 2:59.  And it doesn't last long.  But that's where I learned something new.

I hope you like it.

BTW:  I'm enjoying Winter here in Happy Suwon, S.Korea.  I finally got internet hooked up in my little crackerbox of an apartment.  When I there, my computer is almost always on so don't hesitate to Skype me if you feel like it.  My Skype handle is 'wanderingsalsero'.  And thanks very much to the good folks at ASKnow.ca who got me my first job teaching English in Korea.  Generally speaking, it's been a blast.
